The Board of the Heritage Register, in partnership with the OPW, had a rare opportunity to ascend the majestic Kells Round Tower as part of the newly commenced conservation project. Originating from a monastic settlement, this tower stands as a testament to history. Notably, it boasts five windows on its uppermost level, strategically placed for surveillance of the roads leading into Kells, serving as an early warning system. The tower is currently enveloped in, scaffolding provided by PHD Access renowned for their expertise, in heritage projects like Westminster Abbey. This standalone scaffold ensures the safety of the structure and facilitates the crucial conservation efforts by skilled OPW stonemasons.
